The genesis legend of Nashville hot chicken says it was intended as a jealous girlfriend’s punishment to her philandering man, who ended up liking the red-hot bird. The story is almost believable because this chicken is shockingly hot. It’s also addictive, perhaps literally, as some scientists think the endorphin rush keeps us coming back for more. LA Weekly has chosen Musso & Frank Grill as the Best Classic Cocktail Bar for 2014. They admire the “classic martinis delivered with aplomb,” calling Musso & Frank “a Los Angeles booze landmark” as well as a “dining landmark.” They’ve been doing this for almost a century; yeah, they’re a classic.
$60,000 Damage at Cozy Corner
The Cozy Corner has been one of Memphis’ top barbecue establishments since it opened in 1977.
Some further information on the fire that closed the Cozy Corner barbecue restaurant in Memphis: the fire began with a malfunctioning electrical panel in the storage room. Firefighters had it under control in a half hour. Damage to the building and contents is estimated at about $60,000. No word yet on when they hope to reopen.
