New Haven’s Pepe’s Opening in Boston Mall
In Pepe’s off-again/on-again courtship of Boston pizza-lovers, the relationship appears to be back on again. The latest word has Pepe’s opening in The Mall at Chestnut Hill, in the space formerly occupied by Papa Razzi. They are talking about a 2015 opening. Read the full story yourself here, but our take is that we wouldn’t bet the house on this just yet.
A Look Inside the New Shapiro’s Fashion Mall Deli
The Indianapolis Star visits with Brian Shapiro at the recently opened Shapiro’s Deli branch in the Fashion Mall at Keystone, named Shapiro’s Twisted Traditions. That Twisted Traditions moniker is a way to clue potential customers in to the fact that things are a bit more modern and upscale at this new Shapiro’s. So you’ll find brisket/arugula/tomato sliders on poppy seed rolls and salmon fillets on fancy salads in addition to corned beef sandwiches and matzo ball soup. Whatever it takes.

Valentine’s Day arrives at the end of next week, so NewHampshire.com has found a bunch of local places producing top-quality chocolates, truffles, cupcakes, fudge, pastries, and candies. Valentine’s Day or not, though, we think this story will be very useful during our next trip through The Granite State.
Mike Hardin, Hodad’s Owner, Has Died
We are sorry to pass along the news that Mike Hardin, the owner of the iconic Southern California seaside burger joint, Hodad’s of Ocean Beach, died Thursday at the age of 56 in a California hotel room. A spontaneous memorial to Mr. Hardin is growing in front of the burger restaurant. We send our condolences to the friends and family of Mike Hardin.
