The food page of the festival website proclaims, “Prepared by the Seasoned Chefs of Ware Shoals First Baptist Church” — no way we can resist a line like that! The 36th annual Catfish Feastival in Ware Shoals, SC features fried catfish and catfish stew, as well as fried and barbecued chicken and barbecued ribs. And that’s just what those seasoned Baptist church chefs will be offering. There’ll be other vendors there as well. The Feastival officially begins on Friday, May 27th but you can get a head start on the festivities as the carnival rides will be available Wednesday and Thursday nights. Continue reading

The fourth Thursday of November is rapidly approaching, and everyone knows what that means: the annual Chitlin’ Strut is almost upon us! Saturday, November 28, 2015 will see the 50th Annual Chitlin’ Strut in Salley, South Carolina, and the day promises to be loads of fun. The festival kicks off at 7:00 a.m. with a pancake breakfast. Peach ice cream, peach cobbler, peach sundaes, peach slush, peach tea, peach almond delights (what are they?!), and fresh peaches — that’s right, this isn’t one of those festivals where the local crop plays a strictly symbolic role. No, there WILL be peaches at the 57th annual Lexington County Peach Festival, and plenty of them! To go along with all those fresh peachy delights there will be plate lunches of barbecued pork and chicken.
