A Dozen Great American Food Cities

Finding good food in New York and San Francisco is no challenge. But they’re not the only cities known for great eating, according to Mic. They’ve written about 12 more American cities that have an eating scene to rival the big two. One of them, New Orleans, we would contend is more of an eating city than San Fran or even New York. A couple of surprises: Baltimore and Pittsburgh, and they present a good case for Pittsburgh even while dismissing Primanti-style sandwiches. And Baltimore’s crabs and pit beef carry the day. Who makes the best cheesesteak in Philadelphia? Nonetheless, she is hoping that this is the year she can offer all of her employees health insurance. Until that happens, she’s been urging her people to sign up for insurance through the ACA marketplace, which has been a big success in Maine. The Maine Lobstermen’s Association has also been helping their members get health insurance through ACA. Read more at the Portland Press Herald.

Canter’s Deli goes back to 1931.

Marc Canter, proprietor of Los Angeles’ landmark deli Canter’s, also happened to grow up with one Saul Hudson, better known as Slash, former lead guitarist with Guns N’ Roses. Marc maintained a lifelong connection with the band, and in 2008 wrote a biography of Guns N’ Roses. That biography is now being turned into a feature film about the band. Read more at SPIN.
