Changes Coming to Sally Bell’s in Richmond VA
Sally Bell’s Kitchen of Richmond, Virginia was originally opened in 1924 as Sarah Lee Kitchen. The third generation of the family took over the reigns in 1985. Just last week, they learned they are the first Virginia restaurant to earn the honor of being named one of America’s Classics by the James Beard Foundation. The owners say business had already been picking up before the award: “”I guess with the foodie revolution in Richmond, we’ve kind of become relevant again.”
Last year, the building they’ve done business in since the beginning was purchased by Virginia Commonwealth University, which means they will have to relocate, but not for at least two more years. They are talking about the possibility of offering very informal sit-down dining for the first time when they do finally move.
