Philippe The Original: No Cash, No Problem!

Philippe The Original of Los Angeles has made some concessions to the passage of time. They raised the price of their coffee (it’s now 45 cents). They have a website. They even have a Facebook page. But, since 1908, they’ve accepted only American green, buster, as payment. Tomorrow, they plant both feet in the modern age as Philippe’s begins accepting credit cards!

Anchor Bar opened their first U.S. stand-alone restaurant in Williamsville a couple of months ago (practically across the street from their main competitor, Duff’s), and The Buffalo News reports back on what they found. The physical surroundings bear little resemblance to the downtown original but the wings get a big thumbs up. Read the story here. Even better, peruse the comments that follow. Talk of wings can get the Buffalo crowd riled up, especially when the talk is about Anchor. The partisans are passionate.
